Best Dressed, Worst Dressed at Academy Awards 2011 by Shreya Khanna

The Oscars are a night of glam, glitz and of course, the gowns! The star-studded red carpet of the event proves to be just exciting as the little gold man himself. As the stars flaunt their gowns for the big evening, the anticipation of who will be categorized as best and worst dressed steals everyone’s attention. This year, many stars sported gowns that were absolute hits, whereas some others, well weren’t. Here’s a look at the best and worst dressed of the Academy Awards 2011. Best Dressed Camila Alves Matthew McConaughey’s wife, Camila Alves looked absolutely stunning in her anything but plain black dress. The deep V-neck and back cuts on the Kaufman Franco gown were carried well by the Brazilian model, and helped her stand out on the carpet, despite the common colour. Thrown in with her low bun and diamond earrings, Alves was able to pull off sexy and classy at the same time. Mila Kunis The Black Swan actress could easily be spotted one of the best dressed of the entire night. Flaunting a lilac gown from Elie Saab Haute Couture, the drapery and the net on the gown looked gorgeous throughout the evening. Her curly bun and smoky eyes added a sexy spin to a girly gown. Hilary Swank Ms. Million-Dollar Baby looked like a million bucks that evening in her jaw-dropping Gucci premier gown. The sequined top matched with the messy skirt looked absolutely stunning, and her up-do pulled the entire look together. Hilary was able to pull off a unique dress, without ending up on the “miss” list. Hailee Steinfeld Young actress Hailee Steinfeld looked so lovely, stunning and like an angel on the red carpet at her Oscar debut. The Best Supporting Actress nominee was all smiles the entire evening in her light pink Marchesa gown that she actually helped design! It was great to see the teenage star carrying herself with such poise, maturity and grace, in a gown that was completely age appropriate. Halle Berry Halle Berry never fails to look classy, sophisticated and downright gorgeous. The actress was glowing in her light-coloured Marchesa gown. The net draping on the skirt and the intricate embroidery throughout the gown kept all eyes on her. Her short hair gave an edge to the “hot mess meets classy” look. Worst Dressed Melissa Leo Her acceptence speech may have turned heads, but her dress not so much. The box-shaped dress with the random prints and unflattering collars really did not suit the Academy Award winner. Helene Bonham Carter We know Helena Bonham Carter played Frankenstein’s Bride a while ago, but it seems she never stepped out of that role! Her unshaply black dress with the long sleeves and messy hair was simply confusing, to say the least. Marisa Tomei It seems that Marisa Tomei may have confused the Oscars with Senior Prom. The layerd skirt lacked shape, the navy was unappealing and the dress simply did not hug her in the right places. Overall, a poor choice for the Academy Awards. Jacki Weaver It looks like Jacki Weaver will need to take a lesson on age-appropriate gowns from Hailee Steinfield. The dress resembled a medival knight for the top portion, then took a turn for pale pink flower girl. The gown looked like it was taken from the little girl section of a bridal gallery, and was not age appropriate. Nicole Kidman We really expected more from Nicole Kidman than this crème piece by Christian Dior. The dress had a distorted shape and looked more like an origami project than an Oscar gown. The random beading on the dress was also unappealing.
