The Royal Wedding
by Shreya Khanna Ever since Prince William engaged to his long-time girlfriend Kate Middleton, the Royal Wedding last Friday became one of the most anticipated events of the decade. Great Britain was at a standstill with the upcoming wedding of Princess Diana’s first born. People all over the world were in awe with the fairy-tale fortune of Kate Middleton and were filled with excitement. Questions and predictions of the wedding began turning up everywhere. What colour would the Queen wear? Who would be on the royal guest list? And of course, what would Kate Middleton’s dress look like? With over 2 billion viewers worldwide, the royal couple said their “I-do’s” Friday morning. From the moment the Princes walked into Westminster Abbey, and Elizabeth the II arrived in an optimistic yellow piece, eyes awaited the arrival of the royal bride. The world was in awe at Kate Middleton’s beautiful wedding dress. Kate’s dress was easily one of the most awaited details of the wedding for the public, being kept a great secret for so long. With the long lace sleeves and shorter train than Princess Diana, Kate mixed tradition and modernization into the piece that looked absolutely stunning. Not only did British designer Sarah Burton design a beautiful gown, but she was also able to keep the secret ever since the engagement. Her natural-style makeup and loosely curled hair showed the confidence of this new Duchess. After waving to thousands and thousands of people lining the London streets outside, Kate Middleton finally arrived at the Abbey. The prince’s reaction to his new bride is the one that will never be forgotten. Before William turned around, Prince Harry melted hearts with his “wait until you see Catherine” comment to his brother. Following the arrival of the bride, the royal couple commenced their beautiful ceremony by reciting the vows. Despite the fact that the ceremony was broadcasted all over the world, it has a somewhat intimate feeling to it. The couples’ happiness following the ceremony was hard to remain unnoticed, with the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge smiling ear to ear the whole way back to Buckingham palace. Following their arrival to Buckingham Palace, the royal couple surprised the world with not one but two kisses on the famous balcony. Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge later drove through crowds in their Aston Martin decorated with balloons and a “Just Wed” sign. The entire wedding was a beautiful mix of classic traditions and modern twists. Regardless of the fact that many Canadians do not feel deeply connected to Britain’s monarchy and royal family, it was hard not to feel warmth and happiness from the royal wedding. From the crazy wedding hats, to the star-studded guest list to the intimate vows and romantic kisses, the entire wedding was an absolute beauty to watch. South Asian Woman wishes the a happy married life to the new couple!
